I come from a large Latino family. Throughout our lives, we have always had large celebrations that included family, extended family and those not related by blood but by heart. We have always had some alcohol on hand, but beer has always been a staple at our celebrations.
When a beloved sister passed away, we knew we had to celebrate her life as we’ve always celebrated, with a gathering of our “family.” As it has become a tradition, we all (over 100) raised our glass of beer (Budweiser…a Puerto Rican favorite) and drank to her life. To date, this has been the biggest celebration we have ever held. And every year, we have continued to do so no matter where we are. We may be far from each other, but our tradition of raising a glass of beer on her anniversary has continued. Cheers!
